RhinoAnnon November 13, 2007Queen Janis sings an amazing version of this song, way back in 1969. I put this video up because it's rarely shown elsewhere, it's such a vulnerable performance and unlike anything else she ever recorded. Enjoy.

  • I am 60 years old- loved her then and now. If you grew up during this era, you can really feel her pain and soul! This makes me grieve for all those lost souls.
  • Amazing. X
  • janis is amazing and can't really be compared with anyone, but when it comes to emotions in singing, only otis redding equals her passion...then again this is only my opinion so don't get all fussed about it...
  • oh janis. :( she was AMAZING <3

  • IT IS REALY THE BEST PERFORMANCE EVER.
  • @jw676 The top female soul singer.....FOREVER!!!!!!!!
  • @HandwhistlerBen but don't get me wrong Billie was great what I meant by shes the 1st raspy voice i mean soul singer yes Janis let everything out emotionally and etc. I give her props she took risk and didnt care I can't think of another singer other than Mary j. Blige that takes risk vocally Janis is like Billie turn a happy song and make it cry Aretha brought hope into a song Patti sometimes can be a pain by overdoing it screaming and carry on but thats also why i like her lol
  • @HandwhistlerBen im aware of Janis drinking of Southern Comfort and her drug abuse and Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle or way two different artist vocally big huge difference you'll be surprise how lol and I wish people will see Aretha Franklin outside of Respect and her 60s material and Amazing Grace album cause to be truthfully honest her best work is in the 70s vocally and Billie Holiday voice was clear up until her stay with Verge and she wasnt really a singer she was interpreter of songs
  • @1990soulman Patti Labelle and Aretha had similar styles and put their heart and soul into every note just like Janis. But after Janis sang a song, she had used up so much energy she could have dropped to the floor. Much of that was due to her heavy drinking (Southern Comfort) or drugs. Aretha's "Think" and "Respect" were high intensity songs. Billie Holiday as the first raspy voice BLUES singer, and she was drunk most of the time in her later years.
